Incalmo
DESCRIPTION
Written and translated by Silvana Gubetta
The incalmo technique allows someone to realize blown objects characterized by two or more bands (areas) of different colour and/or texture.
It consists of separately working two different blown cylinders of equal thickness and diameter, but with different decoration and/or colors, one is attached to the punty, the other is still on the blow pipe; once the two extremities are well heated-up, they are then joined one to the other, so to form a unique blown piece. Then the punty is detached and you may proceed with the usual working processes.
As well you may execute more than two incalmo bands on the same piece and also do vertical incalmo by rotating the axes of the object by ninety degrees.
